Rooney Mara Talks Christmas Traditions with Jimmy Fallon

With her new movie "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" opening up in theaters today, Rooney Mara was last night's (December 19) guest on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon".

The 26-year-old actress turned up at NBC's Rockefeller Center looking adorable in a black and white mock neck slit Rodarte for Open Ceremony dress paired with black Prada ankle strap heels for the talk show appearance.

Aside from plugging her much-awaited motion picture, Miss Mara talked with Jimmy about sitting on Santa's lap during her family's Christmas Eve get-together.

Of the family tradition, Rooney dished, "There's over forty grandchildren and every Christmas Eve we go to their house [her grandparents] and they have Santa Claus come and we have to sit on his lap to get our present."

Curious as to who takes on the role of St. Nick, Fallon asked, "Is it just a stranger, like a drifter off the street or do you hire a real Santa Claus?"

"No, it's usually like one of my uncle's brothers or something," Mara replied before Jimmy chimed in, "So I guess it would be your uncle..."

Clarifying things up, Rooney said, "No, no. Not blood related," to which Fallon joked, "Oh, not blood-related? That's a rule [laughs]. You can't be blood-related or you can't play Santa!"

Rooney Mara's Low-Key "Late Show" Visit

Out for another day of “American Idol” duties, Jennifer Lopez was spotted arriving to auditions in Pasadena, CA earlier on Wednesday afternoon (December 14).

The “On the Floor” songstress was dressed in a wintertime chic ensemble as she hopped out of a chauffeured SUV before heading inside for the day's taping session.

The outing comes amidst a report from the Chicago Sun-Times claiming that J. Lo is getting rid of all reminders of her marriage to Marc Anthony - including the bling.

Their insider alleges, "J. Lo also reportedly is quietly selling all the jewelry Anthony gave her -- and he gave her quite a lot."

The source adds, "When Jennifer moves on, she totally moves on," something which her new backup dancer flame Casper Smart "will likely discover he will 'disappear' when she tires of him too."

Fresh off of an overseas flight from Sweden, Rooney Mara made a low-key entrance into the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York City on Wednesday afternoon (December 14).

The Lisabeth Salander actress was on-hand for an appearance on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' to promote her upcoming movie "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

Of the film, Miss Mara recently spoke with Allure about the changes she's made (including a nipple piercing, shorter hair and new style preferences) due to the acclaimed role.

Dishing on her new body jewelry, Rooney confessed, "I thought, 'She has it in the book, and she should have it (in the movie). Because of all the tattoos and the makeup and the piercings, and the physical transformations my body has to go through, it would always feel sort of like I was in costume, even if I was naked. It just felt like a good one to get - a necessary one to get."

As for her chopped locks, the 26-year-old said, "People always ask, 'Were you crying when they cut your hair?' And it didn't freak me out at all. I was really happy to do it."

And, as for ditching her "girlish" wardrobe, Mara told, "I used to wear a lot of girlie, frilly things, now I buy things that are more comfortable, and more utilitarian, and sort of boyish."

Rooney Mara Covers Vogue November 2011

With only a few months remaining until her film "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" makes its much-awaited theatrical debut, rising star Rooney Mara was chosen to cover the November 2011 issue of Vogue magazine.

The 26-year-old actress posed for an elegant spread shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot while interviewing for the publication's latest installment alongside her movie's director, David Fincher.

During her conversation with Vogue, Miss Mara touched on a number of topics ranging from the much-talked about topless movie poster in which she appears alongside co-star Daniel Craig to false assumptions that she's a trust fund baby because her great-grandfathers founded the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

Highlights from Miss Mara's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Vogue!

On the public's response to her topless movie poster:
“There’s a certain way people are used to seeing nude women, and that’s in a submissive, coy pose, not looking at the camera. And in this poster, I’m looking dead into the camera with no expression on my face. I think it freaks a lot of people out.”

On her version of Lisabeth Salander compared to Noomi Rapace's Swedish portrayal:
“One of the things that make our version that much more heartbreaking,” says Mara, “is that even though I am playing a 24-year-old, I look much younger. I look like a child.”

On her change in looks since taking on the role:
“Before, I dressed much girlier. A lot of blush-colored things. Now I literally roll out of bed and put on whatever is there. I have really enjoyed being a boy this last year.”

On being a loner and how it helped her with playing her character:
“I am very slow to warm. I’ve always been sort of a loner. I didn’t play team sports. I am better one-on-one than in big groups. I can understand wanting to be invisible and mistrusting people and wanting to understand everything before you engage with the world.”

On her dislike of the stigma that she's a trust fund child:
“I don’t have a trust fund. I grew up in a little cul-de-sac in the suburbs and went to public school. I went to Costco on the weekends. When my great-grandfathers founded those teams it cost, like, $500. My dad is one of eleven children. I am one of 40 grandchildren. What bothers me about the whole trust-fund thing is that it sort of presumes that everything is handed to you. And if there is one thing about my family that I do identify with, it is that everyone is extremely hardworking. Also, the people whom I grew up with all did things they really loved. And I think that’s an important lesson.”

On putting education before acting:
“My sister started acting professionally when she was twelve, but I wanted to go to college first.”
