"The Help" Tops Hurricane Irene Hampered Box Office
Having made their love for one another official on Saturday (August 27), Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars' wedding day pictures offer a glimpse of the newlyweds partaking in their cherishing moment.
The couple tied the knot at the historic Palazzo Margherita in Bernalda, Italy, with the "Lost In Translation" director looking stunning in a lavender Azzedine Alaia gown while being walked down the aisle by her famous father, Francis Ford Coppola.
As for the ceremony, it was officiated by Bernalda's mayor, Leonardo Chiruzzi, who told press after the festivities, "Everything went well. It was simple, calm, in the garden."
Just one day prior to exchanging vows, Sofia and Thomas were all about relaxation - as they spent the afternoon lounging on the sandy Italian beaches with their darling daughters, Romy, 4½, and Cosima, 15 months.
She's one of the many east coasters dealing with the effects of Hurricane Irene, and Bethenny Frankel seemingly let the major storm system get the best of her.
Unable to sleep through the nasty conditions, the Skinnygirl mogul began her Twitter tear at 3AM by writing, "I can't sleep. So nervous. The wind is so loud outside.what's the update?tv will wake everyone."
An hour later, Miss Frankel disregarded her sleeping husband and baby, as she continued, "I can't believe how scary this is.now watching the news with my jaw dropped.more&more evacuations&more state of emergencies. Brace yourselves NEW YORK.Irene is on her way now."
The "Bethenny Ever After" star's anxiety reached its peak at around 7:30AM, as she tweeted, "We just lost electricity.this b**ch is coming.jason is oblivious.3 naps yesterday, slept all night,no prep.hurricane bethenny also here."
In the following hours, Bethenny posted a series of photos including one of herself looking quite unkempt along with numerous shots from her home and neighborhood, with her latest message reading, "I wanted to wash&dry my hair yesterday &jason thought I was nuts.now the new hairstyle is hurricane bethenny.jen aniston is so jealous."
Along with Frankel, numerous fellow celebs were active on Twitter while sending well-wishes and personal experiences via Twitter. A few of the many postings are as follows:
Ivanka Trump Majors wind and big waves in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. How are you faring through #Irene? Be safe! #hurricane
Nick Jonas So much hype about #Irene will be interesting to see this all plays out. Everyone stay safe.
Kourtney Kardashian More powerful prayers for the east coast. Don't forget how powerful prayer can be!
Adam Lambert East coasters: stay safe and smart while this storm rolls in. :) in my thoughts.
No longer willing to bite her tongue when it comes to what she feels is a clear abuse of power, Solange Knowles voiced her disapproval with the way that police in Miami, Florida conduct themselves.
Taking to Twitter to post a series of late night, anger-filled messages, the 25-year-old began her venting session by writing, "I have literally had my last leg with discriminating police! Miami police department will be notified."
The upsetness stemmed from an incident in which Miss Knowles claimed to have been threatened by an officer who drew a weapon on her for "no reason."
She explained, "A police officer just pulled a weapon on me.... I have done NOTHING illegal, against the law, or anything of the sort."
Solange continued, "I am simply tired of police using arrogance, ego and authority as an offense. I'm only tweeting this to raise awareness. I could have left quietly, but I am sick & tired of this scenario being played over & over again."
The "I Decided" singer concluded by tweeting, "I'm ok. I'm safe & sound at my apartment. I'm just beyond frustrated with the system. Been on the phone for the last 20 minutes reporting this incident. Yes, I have the officers name. Yes, I have the location. Scare tactics don't WORK."
He's a legend in the world of music, but Tom Jones was forced to put his performance plans aside after checking into a hospital on Saturday (August 27).
The 71-year-old "What's New Pussycat?" singer reportedly cancelled a concert at the Sporting Club's Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo due to severe dehydration.
News of the hospitalization broke after theatrical producer David King posted a Twitter message reading, "Tonight's concert at the Sporting Club, Monte Carlo, cancelled as Tom Jones admitted to hospital with a heart scare."
Meanwhile, a representative from the Sporting Club said, "I received a call at 8.10pm informing me that the event had been cancelled because Tom Jones had been taken to hospital."
Initial reports from the Daily Mail claimed that Jones was receiving treatment for heart woes, which the singer refuted by posting the following message: "There are NO heart problems, as has been reported in the press.”
All prettied up for the awards show weekend festivities, Demi Lovato was arm-in-arm with a gal pal while making her way into The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Saturday night (August 27).
The "Skyscraper" singer looked stunning in a snug n' sexy LBD as she was on-hand for Perez Hilton's "One Night" pre-VMAs party.
The outing comes as Miss Lovato recently chatted with MTV about her excitement over watching Britney Spears receive her special tribute during Sunday night's (August 28) VMA ceremony.
"Who isn't a Britney Spears fan?" Demi asked, adding, "My favorite Britney Spears song is 'I Wanna Go,' 'cause it's the latest song that she has and I love it."
Also noting why she feels Miss Spears is deserving of the honor, the 19-year-old told, "'Cause she's the ultimate pop star; nobody can touch her. She's been around for such a long time now and she's the epitome of pop. So when I think of pop music, I think of her."
Keeping in shape as she enjoys her summer break, Dakota Fanning was spotted out for a cardio barre class in Los Angeles, California on Saturday afternoon (August 27).
The "Coraline" star looked adorable sans makeup as she pecked away at her hot pink cell phone while strolling in the blistering hot west coast weather following the weekend fitness session.
Having just graduated from high school back in June, it has recently been confirmed that Miss Fanning has enrolled at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
The 17-year-old actress plans to begin her college courses when the fall semester begins in September, though it's unclear whether or not she'll live on campus and when she plans to make the move to the Big Apple.
As for her ultra-successful acting, Miss Fanning can next be seen in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" - which hits theaters on November 18th.
Easing back into the public eye after giving birth to daughter Haven Garner a few weeks ago, Jessica Alba stepped out for a date night in West Hollywood on Saturday (August 27).
Already back in fabulous shape, the "Spy Kids 4" actress looked charming in a black and white ensemble as she walked arm-in-arm with hubby Cash Warren after dining at popular sushi restaurant Matsuhisa.
As for snapping back into pre-pregnancy form so quickly, the 30-year-old continued working out while carrying her daughter - though she attributes her quick weight loss to family genes.
Miss Alba explained to People magazine, "My grandmother was amazing – would go home in the clothes that she wore before she got pregnant with all five of her kids. It's definitely good genetics."
Voicing his disdain for the network that gave rise to music videos, Adam Levine took to Twitter to vent about tonight's MTV Video Music Awards.
The Maroon 5 frontman, who joined his bandmates at the Snapple Tea Will Be Loved Launch on Friday night (August 26), tweeted, "the VMA’s. one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I’m drawing a line in the sand. f**k you VMA’s.”
Not taking too kindly to Adam's comments, MTV shot back a message of their own by tweeting, ”Soooo you’ll be tuning in at 9/8C tomorrow right? (BTW, bonus points if you TwitPic your 2004 Moonman!)”
Unwilling to let MTV have the last word, 32-year-old Levine closed out the mini-feud by writing, “still waiting to have my ‘jerry macguire mission statement moment of deep regret… ‘ not happening. phew!”
Putting those pesky divorce rumors to rest once and for all, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were spotted side-by-side while out in Malibu, CA on Wednesday (August 24).
With the paparazzi on them like glue, the happy couple grabbed brunch at Bob Morris' Beach Cafe before shopping at the Malibu Colony Company.
Rumors of a break up sparked when In Touch released a story full of silly details claiming that Jada and Marc Anthony (JLo’s ex) were sneaking around.
However, reps for both Anthony and Pinkett Smith deny that there’s any illicit romance between them, with her spokesperson telling press, “Everything about Jada and Marc Anthony is false.”
Treating fans to superstar surprise, Justin Bieber dropped by Taylor Swift's sold out Los Angeles show at Staples Center last night (August 23).
Quickly catching the audience's attention, the 21-year-old songstress asked, "Who wants to see m friend Justin?." That's when the "Never Say Never" crooner suddenly emerged onstage, inciting a full-blown frenzy as he and Taylor belted out a special duet of his hit "Baby."
Making good on his word, Justin hinted towards an appearance when he tweeted a message to the "Mean" singer recently, writing, “Heard you sang BABY at your concert in TO. thank u for the love… might have to come by and stop in on a show."
Noting the crazy excitement of the crowd, Swift took to her twitter to dish about Tuesday night's concert, as she wrote, “You think you’ve heard LOUD screaming in your life. Then @justinbieber comes out and does a surprise song during your show.”
Continuing along with their short and sweet honeymoon, Kim Kardashian joined new husband Kris Humphries for their first romantic dinner away from their hotel in Naples, Italy on Thursday night (August 25).
While the E! babe was dolled up in a lovely dress, her NBA player hubby chose to dress down in shorts and a baseball hat as the newlyweds ate the the famous Eolo restaurant in the downtown area.
Once finished with their delectable meals, the couple leisurely walked the city streets before catching a lift back to their luxury hotel.
Meanwhile, the European getaway will soon be drawing to an end - as Kim is set to head to New York to begin filming season two of "Kourtney & Kim Take New York" while also scheduled to appear at Sunday night's (August 28) MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Planning to jet off for a much lengthier (and tropical) honeymoon at a future date, Kim told People magazine, “We want to take our big honeymoon later."
As they ready to debut season three of their hit show “Glee,” the cast can be seen in a brand sneak speak video titled, “Dodgeball.”
The main characters from the Emmy winning FOX comedy released the video last night (August 24) in anticipation of the September 20th premiere.
As always, the talented cast has viewers captivated with Sue Sylvester back to her old ways while “We Got the Beat” blares in the background.
Earlier in the week, the cast’s brand new music video for Fashion’s Night Out - which takes place on September 8th - was released.
Having been rumored to be an item since late June, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield offered a little confirmation to the claims during a rare non-work related sighting in Malibu, CA on Thursday night (August 25).
The "Amazing Spider-Man" co-stars kept their distance and made sure not to give awaiting photogs any PDA-filled shots as they exited Nobu restaurant following an evening sushi dinner date.
Word of the new off-screen romance was first reported by Us Weekly, as their source told at the time, "They got close during filming and have been hooking up. They haven't gone public, but he's told his friends."
The sighting comes just a day after comedic actor Jim Carrey posted a strange video on his TruLife website to declare his love for Miss Stone.
In the Carrey clip, the "Ace Ventura" star began by saying, “I just wanted to let you know that I think you’re all the way beautiful. If I were a lot younger, I would marry you, and we would have chubby little freckle-faced kids.”
Carrey then confessed he’s too old for Stone, noting his wrinkled forehead, a bit of grey in his beard, and the fact that it “takes him a little longer to pee than it used to.”
With expected Hollywood earnings of $120 million cut by a hefty projected loss of 25% thanks to Hurricane Irene, "The Help" held onto the top spot at the box office during the dismally slow weekend of August 26-28, 2011.
The Emma Stone starring book-based picture, which has been perched atop the movie money-making list for the third straight week, pulled in $4.2 million on Friday with a weekend total of approximately $14.5 million.
Having the unfortunate pleasure of opening up on the storm-impacted date, Zoe Saldana's newly released action flick "Colombiana" followed closely behind with a $3.7 million first day - which set the Olivier Megaton directed offering up for a debut weekend take of $10.2 million. Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated weekend totals are the Katie Holmes fronted horror/thriller "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" ($9.2 million), followed by "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" ($8.5 million) and "Spy Kids 4" ($6.2 million). Meanwhile, the just-released Paul Rudd comedy "Our Idiot Brother" also felt the effects of Hurricane Irene with a much lower than expected $6 million opening en route to a sixth place finish.
