Nicki Minaj & Rihanna's "Fly" Video Debut

The music industry is still mourning the death of Amy Winehouse, and last night (August 28) the late “Rehab” songstress received a fabulous tribute at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

Winehouse’s close friend Russell Brandshared some sweet words with the folks at the Nokia Theatre LA Live, as well as viewers from all over the world.

"She was a mate of mine and tragically this year we lost her. First time I met her, she was kind of like a daft, dopey person, just wandering around a little bit crazy, like a lot of people who are drawn to big cities with a peculiar, unknowable talent."

Brand also noted that when he saw her sing, he was floored. "This is not just another London chancer, not just another person milling about waiting to be famous. What is this incredible sound? This timeless sound like a roar from the guts of humanity? The kind of voice that Billie Holiday sung with, the kind of voice that Ella Fitzgerald sung with."

Meanwhile, Bruno Mars took the stage with his impressive band for a rendition of Amy’s cover of “Valerie.”

And at the end, he got the crowd singing, "Say Amy, oh Amy/ I love you darling, I love you darling/ Say Amy, whoa Amy, we'll miss you baby."

They’re both huge names in the entertainment business, and last night (August 28) Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears were in attendance at the House of Hype VMA Awards after party.

The “Toxic” mommy and the “Zoey 101” star both hired babysitters in favor of getting in some sisterly bonding at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.

And it sounds like it was quite a shindig- Katy Perry was honored for her awesomeness during the course of the night.

Additionally, Jamie Foxx gave a special performance, and stars like Akon, Malin Ackerman, Rose McGowan, and Emma Roberts all showed up.

Kicking off his week with a morning workout, Alexander Skarsgard was spotted leaving a gym in NYC today (August 29).

The “True Blood” hunk looked focused as he strolled around SoHo listening to his earbuds and carrying his gym bag.

And though NYC Mayor Bloomberg suggested New Yorkers head for higher ground in light of the incoming Hurricane Irene, Alex opted to just stay put.

When asked if he was planning on evacuating, Skarsgard replied, “No. I’ve got some wine as well. That’s all you need, right?”

Giving in to her penchant for purchases, Taylor Swift was spotted shopping at a flea market in West Hollywood yesterday (August 28).

The “Should’ve Said No” songstress said yes to an antique mirror she found at the Melrose Avenue locale and proudly carried it back to her car.

Later on in the evening, Taylor was giving a concert at the Staples Center when she got a very special guest to join her onstage - Nicki Minaj.

Miss Minaj celebrated her MTV Video Music Awards win from earlier in the night by performing “Super Bass” as part of Swift’s set.

Taken into custody after an alleged weekend (August 27) altercation, Matthew Fox is accused of punching a woman in her "chest and stomach area" while out on the town in Cleveland, Ohio.

According to reports, the "Lost" actor made an attempt to board a party bus, of which he wasn't a guest, as a way to get back to his downtown hotel.

When he was refused entry, Matthew reportedly got physical, striking female bus driver Heather Bormann in the "crotch and breast," according to TMZ.

During her interview with the website, Heather said she was forced to hit the actor, as she needed to defend herself, "He just kept staring at me with his mouth wide open and not saying anything. I told him, 'You have to leave buddy. You are trespassing on my bus.'"

After Fox allegedly made the first punch, Miss Borman retaliated, as she explained, "I took one hand to his jaw and he was spitting blood. He stumbled backwards."

She added, "This was my self-defense. This was the only way I could protect myself…..from a man beating up on a woman."

It was one of the music industry’s biggest nights, and Jessie J wasn’t about to let her foot injury keep her home from the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

The British songstress broke her foot when she fell off of a stage almost 3 months ago, so she had to get creative for her appearance on the big show.

She told the audience, “I got the offer to come here and I thought, 'You know what, I'm not gonna sit at home feeling sorry for myself.’”

Prior to her arrival in the US, Jessie told press, “I’ve watched the VMAs every single year and always wished I could be there. So I’m going to be singing a lot and people seeing me and every single person I’ve ever looked up to in the music industry is going to be in the same room at once. Broken foot or not, I’m still going to wild out and do my thing.”

With rehearsals kicking off over the weekend, Elisabetta Canalis and Kristin Cavallari both showed up to begin practicing for the upcoming season of “Dancing With the Stars" (August 28).

George Clooney's ex looked super sexy in a black sports bra and leggings as she hopped in her car after an intense rehearsal.

Meanwhile, the “Hills” babe looked fit and fine in a gray t-shirt and black pants as she made her way into the studio for her dance session.

The entire cast partaking in Season 13 of “DWTS” will be announced tonight by Tom Burgeron and Brooke Burke during “Bachelor Pad” on ABC.

Stepping out to celebrate her 29th birthday, LeAnn Rimes was joined by husband Eddie Cibrian at Nobu restaurant in Malibu, CA last night (August 28).

The “Crazy Women” singer and her “Playboy Club” hubby looked as happy as can be as they held each other tightly while making their way inside the celeb-favorite eatery.

An appreciative LeAnn took to Twitter to thank her fans, friends and family, as she wrote, “Thank you ALL for your bday wishes! I’m overwhelmed! Big hugs to you all!”

Over the weekend, Rimes and Cibrian treated his sons, Jake and Mason, to a day at the beach.

She certainly knows how to make an entrance, and Beyonce Knowles had all eyes on her at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards tonight (August 28).

The “Crazy in Love” songstress brought her fashion A-game as she posed inside the Nokia Theatre LA Live to prepare for her big performance, but the BIG news is the confirmation that she's expecting her first child with Jay-Z!

Quite the exciting time for Beyonce, the gorgeous singer's baby news comes shortly after she released her music video for “1+1” from her latest album 4.

Additionally, coming up on October 8th, Knowles will join in via satellite for the Michael Jackson tribute concert at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

With another year's show come and gone, the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards offered up plenty of action while honoring the best in the music business.

The big winners at the Nokia Theatre LA Live show on Sunday night (August 28) included Katy Perry as Video of the Year honoree for "Firework" while Lady Gaga nabbed Best Female Video for "Born This Way" and Justin Bieber's "U Smile" took home the Moonman for Best Male Video.

Having made their love for one another official on Saturday (August 27), Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars' wedding day pictures offer a glimpse of the newlyweds partaking in their cherishing moment.

The couple tied the knot at the historic Palazzo Margherita in Bernalda, Italy, with the "Lost In Translation" director looking stunning in a lavender Azzedine Alaia gown while being walked down the aisle by her famous father, Francis Ford Coppola.

As for the ceremony, it was officiated by Bernalda's mayor, Leonardo Chiruzzi, who told press after the festivities, "Everything went well. It was simple, calm, in the garden."

Just one day prior to exchanging vows, Sofia and Thomas were all about relaxation - as they spent the afternoon lounging on the sandy Italian beaches with their darling daughters, Romy, 4½, and Cosima, 15 months.

Making the most of her time in Italy, Bar Refaeli was spotted sunning herself in a stunning blue bikini yesterday afternoon (August 28).

The Israeli supermodel pranced around the Kauris III luxury yacht off the coast of Portofino while eager paparazzi snapped up pictures.

Bar bathed in the sea and played volleyball along with some friends who had come along for the ride (and the view!).

During her Mediterranean tour, Ms. Refaeli has been keeping her Twitter followers up-to-date on her festivities, including “belly dancing in Greece or at least trying to.”

She's one of the many east coasters dealing with the effects of Hurricane Irene, and Bethenny Frankel seemingly let the major storm system get the best of her.

Unable to sleep through the nasty conditions, the Skinnygirl mogul began her Twitter tear at 3AM by writing, "I can't sleep. So nervous. The wind is so loud outside.what's the update?tv will wake everyone."

An hour later, Miss Frankel disregarded her sleeping husband and baby, as she continued, "I can't believe how scary this is.now watching the news with my jaw dropped.more&more evacuations&more state of emergencies. Brace yourselves NEW YORK.Irene is on her way now."

The "Bethenny Ever After" star's anxiety reached its peak at around 7:30AM, as she tweeted, "We just lost electricity.this b**ch is coming.jason is oblivious.3 naps yesterday, slept all night,no prep.hurricane bethenny also here."

In the following hours, Bethenny posted a series of photos including one of herself looking quite unkempt along with numerous shots from her home and neighborhood, with her latest message reading, "I wanted to wash&dry my hair yesterday &jason thought I was nuts.now the new hairstyle is hurricane bethenny.jen aniston is so jealous."

Along with Frankel, numerous fellow celebs were active on Twitter while sending well-wishes and personal experiences via Twitter. A few of the many postings are as follows:

Ivanka Trump Majors wind and big waves in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. How are you faring through #Irene? Be safe! #hurricane

Nick Jonas So much hype about #Irene will be interesting to see this all plays out. Everyone stay safe.

Kourtney Kardashian More powerful prayers for the east coast. Don't forget how powerful prayer can be!

Adam Lambert East coasters: stay safe and smart while this storm rolls in. :) in my thoughts.

It was an evening of fabulous performances, memorable moments, and tons of trophies, and the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards also included a killer debut video from Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.

The “Pink Friday” rapper and the “Russian Roulette” songstress joined forces for the brand-spanking-new “Fly” music video, and it’s quite the wild ride.

According to MTV, “The video plays out like some post-apocalyptic fashion magazine photo shoot in which Nicki Minaj and Rihanna stand near a plane wreck in couture outfits, mugging for the camera.”

“Fly” was actually filmed way back in January and was directed by Nicki’s “Super Bass” helmsman Sanaa Hamri.
