Box Office: "Real Steel" Overpowers "Ides of March"


Shooting straight to the top of the pack upon it's opening weekend of release, "Real Steel" knocked out the competition for a clear-cut first place finish at the box office over the weekend of October 7-9, 2011.

The Hugh Jackman starring sci-fi/drama picture raked in $8.5 million on Friday and $12 million on Saturday while totaling for an expected $29 million weekend total.

Settling for runner-up on it's opening weekend was the George Clooney spearheaded political caper "Ides of March," which pulled in $3.4 million in ticket sales on its first day of release and $4.3 million more on Saturday while closing in on an approximated $10.5 million opening weekend.

Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated weekend totals were last week's top finisher "Dolphin Tale ($9 million), followed by Brad Pitt's "Moneyball" ($7.3 million) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's "50/50" ($5.3 million).
